Jim Disgusts Finebaum

Paul Finebaum’s reaction to “Jim From Tuscaloosa”.

Jim from Tuscaloosa” continues to embarrass his home state of Alabama on The Paul Finebaum Show.  Listen to his latest rant on the quarterback “controversy” at the University of Alabama.

It an agenda, Paul… it’s the protection agenda.  He’s one of THEM. He’s one of THEIRS – they figure.  It’s a color deal, Paul. It’s about COLOR.” – The REAL Jim From Tuscaloosa.

Paul Finebaum Takes Aim at "Jim from Tuscaloosa"

Paul Finebaum Takes Aim at “Jim from Tuscaloosa”

By Finebaum Fan.

“I-Man”, a popular “hall-of-fame” caller to The Paul Finebaum Show, added yet another call to his repertoire today.

He began his call by discussing Finebaum’s short-lived collegiate football career at the University of Tennessee.  Finebaum, as everyone knows, was a highly touted quarterback prospect from Memphis whose career was tragically cut short by a knee injury before he was ever able to take the field.

“I-Man” continued (through discussing Larry’s call from yesterday) to a prepared slam of “Darriel from Columbus” but was interrupted by Finebaum.

It seemed Finebaum had “Jim from Tuscaloosa” on his mind.

“Jim” is a controversial character on the show whose exploits are well documented on this site.

Other than using the Finebaum show as a mouthpiece for his ill-placed rants, “Jim” likes to spew his venom anonymously on Twitter.

We would have included a photo of “Jim” to the right, but as far as we know – none exist.

As long as you don’t offend “Jim from Tuscaloosa”, you can follow his Twitter account here.

For your listening pleasure, we present the following audio of the call.

David Cornwell

David Cornwell at Jones High School

By Finebaum Fan.

The University of Alabama may have lost 2015 quarterback prospect, Ricky Town, to USC – but David Cornwell is already on campus.

Cornwell, an Under Armour All-American and Elite 11 Alumni ,  is a 6′ 5” 241-pound early enrollee from Norman, Oklahoma who will be competing for the starting quarterback position this spring.

While at Norman High School North, he passed for 12 touchdowns and 1445 yards in the first five games of 2013 before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

His recovery has been progressing nicely and it appears he will be ready to compete by the time the Crimson Tide begins spring practice.

On Dec  3, just six weeks after ACL surgery, he posted an update to his progress on YouTube.

Sure, it’s a basketball and there isn’t an SEC defense in his face, but you have to admit this full-court pass is quite impressive!

I’m pretty sure he was just checking the wind on his first attempt, but he certainly nailed the second one.

But, what can he do with a football?

Here are some of the highlights from Cornwell’s high school career.

There has been much speculation that  Jacob Coker, a likely transfer from Florida State, is the heir apparent to Heisman runner-up, A.J. McCarron.

Coker and Cornwell are about the same size.  And like Cornwell, Coker is also coming off a season-ending knee injury.

After comparing Cornwell’s passing accuracy to that of Coker, I wouldn’t be surprised to see David Cornwell emerge as the Tide’s quarterback this fall.

For some interesting insight to Cornwell’s long road from Oklahoma to Alabama, read this article by Matt Scalici.

Alabama Crimson Tide QB A.J. McCarron

Alabama Crimson Tide QB A.J. McCarron

While quarterback AJ McCarron may not generate the same level of Heisman Trophy hype as counterparts Johnny Manziel or Jameis Winston, the Alabama star was recognized with another honor this week. As he continues his quest for a third consecutive BCS title, McCarron graces the cover of the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated.

McCarron has won 35 games over the course of his Crimson Tide career, and he has passed for 2,228 yards with 21 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2013. Still, in some circles, the senior is labeled as a “game manager.” Writes executive editor L. Jon Wertheim:

“McCarron might be almost as well known for his arm candy as his arm strength, his body ink as his body of work. But let’s be clear: He’s not just one of the great Alabama quarterbacks. AJ McCarron is on the short list of the most successful players in the history of college football. Even if not many think of him that way.”

In the story, Wertheim explores the dichotomy between McCarron’s reputation in Alabama and across the nation, touching on his high-profile relationship with Katherine Webb and his leadership role in the locker room.

“By conventional metrics, McCarron is not going to elevate eyebrows. He will not often throw for 300 yards, the way, say, Manziel, Oregon’s Marcus Mariota and Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater will. He’s not a dual threat.

“Then again, if you want to build a case for McCarron, you could do worse than starting here: He has as many national championships as he does defeats.”

Following last Saturday’s 20-7 victory over Mississippi State, ‘Bama is 10-0. It closes the regular season with matchups against Chattanooga (Nov. 23) and rival Auburn (Nov. 30).

Finebaum And Saban Magazine CoverOnly hours after news broke that University of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron‘s  mom and girlfriend appeared together on the cover of Access Magazine, parody covers began surfacing on the internet.

Given today’s culture of high technology, it was only a matter of time.

The magazine serves the Mobile, Alabama area and bills itself as “The Bay’s First Women’s Magazine!”.

McCarron’s mom, Dee Bonner, and girlfriend, model and former Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb, posed at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile in July for an article in the magazine’s “September Fashion and Football” issue.

This parody image which surfaced depicts the faces of  ESPN radio host Paul Finebaum and University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban in place of the beautiful ladies.

Although the point of the parody cover is best interpreted by the observer, no doubt detractors of Finebaum and  rivals of the Crimson Tide will find it amusing.  Such is life at the top and both Finebaum and Saban are at the top of their respective professions.

A similar, although more harsh, parody GIF went viral yesterday depicting the same two gentlemen. It originated on a blog penned by a Texas A&M supporter.  The GIF spread so quickly that a second server was required to supply the demand.

If given the choice between the two framed magazine covers, rest assured the one of “AJ’s Girls” will be the one hanging on my wall.  I’ll leave the other for the less tasteless sports fans who don’t recognize true beauty when it hits them in the faces.
